Ernesto Cansceco runs Celebrity Stables BV in Boijl, Friesland (in the north of the Netherlands) together with his wife Ilona. He is responsible for training the horses, working with clients, and sourcing the right horses for each individual rider. With years of experience and a sharp eye for quality, Ernesto knows how to match the right horse to the right person. "I love an uphill-moving horse with an active hind leg," he says.
Through Dutch Horse Trading, he mainly offers talented young sport horses, along with the occasional 3- or 4-year-old straight from local breeders."My motivation is to open up new sales markets," says Ernesto, "not just for myself, but also for other horse people in our northern region."
He values honest and realistic communication with both buyers and sellers: "Listening closely to both sides is key to meeting their expectations. But I'm always honest when I feel a request may not be realistic."
Ernesto sees sport and trading as a powerful combination: "When you do sport well, more business follows. And if the trading is successful, you gain access to better horses—which raises your level in the sport as well."
Celebrity Stables has earned a strong international reputation, especially in Mexico. Recent highlights include Haraminka winning a 5* Grand Prix, Impala de Oase winning a 2* Grand Prix, and Gigi Carmen winning two 5* Grand Prix events last year. "In a recent 4* class, four of the top ten horses came from our stable," Ernesto adds proudly (April 2025).
He sees his participation in Dutch Horse Trading as a win-win for everyone involved. The team members gain access to a broader market, while customers benefit from a large selection of pre-screened horses all in one central, trustworthy place. "In my opinion, that's a good thing for everyone."
