Bert van den Oetelaar is a well-known horseman at showjumping competitions in the Netherlands and neighboring countries. For decades, he has been scouting talented hunters, young showjumpers, and eventing horses for his clients. In addition to scouting, he can be found at competitions with about ten horses every week.
Together with his wife Marion and daughter Micky, Bert runs Stal Ham in the south of Holland (Veghel), where they train young horses and produce horses for owners. Bert's son Tim has been working for Stal Hendrix of the Hendrix family in Baarlo for more than ten years and has competed at two Junior European Championships. Daughter Micky jumped Nations Cups as a junior rider.
Bert has an eye for a talented showjumper but also for a beautiful horse with a correct conformation. No wonder Stal Hendrix and the Dutch Sport Horse Traders Association (V.S.N.) also appreciate his services as a scout and judge.
Bert has been (co-) owner of several approved stallions, such as Gentleman and Vittorio. He also co-owned some absolute top showjumpers, like Plot Blue and Simon. Both horses went on to win the World Cup final, Plot Blue with Marcus Ehning and Simon with Beezie Madden. On top of that, Plot Blue is an approved breeding stallion.
Bert has been a member of the V.S.N. for years. Membership of this Dutch Sport Horse Traders Association, the only organization for sport horse dealers in the world, guarantees a fair and correct process regarding the purchase of a horse. "I think it's important that what you say is correct and that you stand behind the horse you are selling," says Bert.
